    Default Cabinet angle questions

It is finally starting to warm up here and I can start doing work outside again so need to build a couple cabinets. I had a question that has to do with the angle of the machines. Both of the machines I restored need to sit back at an angle to play properly. I am assuming this is the case with most machines but do not know. If so, for a cabinet how do you allow for that angle?

    Thanks for any advice.

I didn't really worry about that,

but, you could built the cabinet squared and leveled and shim the pachinko frame after seeing if it really needs it.

make sure your machines will fit,

a little oversize is better than a tight fit or no fit

Thanks for the reply. My one concern is if I build the cabinet square and then put the machine in it and have it angled will the door open properly? I was concerned it would hit the top of the cabinet when opening. Did you have the cabinet door recessed inside the cabinet(s) you built?

    Thx!

no. i had the edge of the cabinet matching the edge of the wooden frame, the door itself was not recessed for easy opening

I can't speak for modern machines, but this what I do for vintages:

The frames of my machines slide into the front of wall cabinets I build, and I leave just enough "wiggle room" in the front cabinet opening to allow the pachi frame to tilt back about 2 degrees before I attach it to the cabinet.

If you stand a vintage pachi up on it's own, resting the bottom of the frame on a flat and level surface, the machine should lean backwards naturally about 2 degrees.

I have a modern Star Wars machine that came with a "built on" cabinet/stand that doesn't have any slant to it, so I did like LD suggested above and added several felt pads under the front of the feet that rest on the table. The felt pads add just the right amount of tilt.

thanks Both. I hopefully can start on these shortly. I was going to wall mount so would not be able to shim under the cabinet. I did not want it to look pulled away from the wall. I guess if I need to shim it out a little on the bottom again the wall to add some tilt, I could add trim to hide that.

the angle is so slight you should not need any trim..

Yeah it should be tilted back anywhere between 2-4 degrees. You can see the angle on my machine (granted it is probably a little over 4 degrees but it plays nice.) Basically we have it flush at the top and then on the bottom we match the back of the wood front flush with the cabinet face. Oh and no problems opening and closing it as long as you don't recess it into the cabinet and have it flush at the top.

I just set it flush with the cabinet face and then to the machine and make the edge of the bubble touch the line when the bubble is perfectly centered on the cabinet face. Then play the machine and adjust if needed.

3 degrees out of plumb, on a 32" machine, is 1-1/8".

Now in the metric system, that converts to 1 newton meter per stone...

Hold on there Pardners! Aren't the pins of the playfield angled to keep the ball bouncing away from the glass? I know that angle is greater than 3 degrees. I know on my moderns, if the frame is not straight up and down, then the ball might not roll out of the "spill-overs" located above the Start pocket and below the video display.

And that video that Mandoman linked, was that 3 degrees, or 3 minutes, where a minute is 1/60th of a degree?

That's why I setup my V-Triggers plumb but on my GitS the balls bang the glass. It's thin double pane glass so it's very annoying. Like throwing pebbles at a window. This thread popped up just as I was researching the interwebs for info. Lucky!
    I guess I'll experiment.
